Travel Writing & Photography
Introduction
I enjoy writing and taking photos when traveling and over the years have been lucky enough to work, visit and live in some incredible locations around the world. Free from the pressures of a creative brief or a deadline, I take the photos primarily as a way to have a record of the places I’ve found special for one reason or another.
180º North East
”180º North East” is an 80,000-word travel narrative with photography covering a journey I made through 4 continents in 2009/2010. After finishing a year-long stay in a small town in Australia, I decided to travel home (The Netherlands) using overland and sea transport and avoiding flights when possible. The trip took me through just under 20 countries including Thailand, China, Korea, Japan, Canada and Iceland. Along the way, I met interesting people, saw amazing landscapes and learned a lot about the world, nature, cultures, as well as myself before finally arriving home. The book contains around 40 black and white photographs taken throughout the journey.
After finishing and designing the first draft, I entered it into various competitions and in 2014 it won a Platinum Award in the "A' Design Awards". In 2019, I requested the help of an independent publisher (2QT Publishing) to take a look at the manuscript. I was then introduced to my editor (Karen Holmes) who, over the course of a year, helped refine the text and get it in shape for publication.
It is now available as an ebook on amazon.co.uk and free to read if you have a Kindle Unlimited plan.
